Dance & Play
A balance of structure and free play, providing an opportunity for the parent/caregiver to become involved with weekly activities. The class incorporates music and movement, dance exploration, yoga, visual art projects, snack time and free play for socialization. A parented drop-in program.
Parent & babes, tots, preschool 3 & 4 years old, children 4 & 5 years old
Dance Two-gether
Movement for both child and parent to explore together. The class teaches musicality, movement exploration, following instruction as a class, and basic dance movements. Dance props and music are utilized to create a learn-through-play atmosphere. The class is focussed on the unity of both parent and child’s full participation, and is the perfect introduction to dance as they develop their motor skills and concentration.
Tots 2–3 years old
Discovering Dance & Friends
A collaboration of dance, visual art, costume creation and friendship. The program offers the discovery of ballet and tap to develop physicality, musicality and concentration – all balanced with the love of dance. The class will also provide the opportunity for children to explore their creativity with visual art and costume creation. Socialization and interaction with other children will encourage students to develop friendships and a sense of community.
The program is the perfect balance for the budding young dancer and artist to explore their inner talents and passions.
All visual art and costume creation supplies will be provided
Children 4–5 years old
Dance Discover
Introducing the balance of discovering ballet and tap techniques, and exploring the unique abilities the student will develop.
The ballet class experiences the understanding of posture, alignment, musicality, strength, flexibility, movement and terminology.
The tap class is dynamic, exploring the mechanics of basic steps and the rhythms they can create. The class is a balance of education and love of discovering dance.
Children 4 & 5 years old
Dance Explore
Children explore with their imagination, balanced with learning dance movements. The class involves dynamic energy assisted with the use of music and dance props. The student will learn how to concentrate, develop physicality, music awareness and appreciation for the art form of dance and performance. The ideal introduction of experiencing a dance class in a studio environment.
Children 3 years of age
Junior Dance Foundations
The core of all dance programs at the studio. The disciplines of ballet, tap and contemporary are the focus of the dance styles taught.
- Ballet follows the RAD syllabus and teaching methods
- Tap classes use the Al Gilbert syllabus
- Contemporary bears the influence of the many styles and techniques of modern teachers and choreographers
JR One – a balanced combination of ballet and tap
The ballet class will teach students the understanding of posture, placement, flexibility and strength, and follows barre, centre, floor work and enchainment settings.
The tap class will teach the technique of basic steps while acquiring an ear for rhythmic sound. The philosophy of the program is to instill the education and passion for dance.
Children 5 & 6 years old
JR Two – building on what was learned in JR One
Contemporary dance techniques are introduced into the mix. Using the foundation of ballet with the technique of modern pioneers such as Duncan, Graham, Humphrey, Limon and Webb. The class allows students to maintain their foundational technique and explore their own unique physical dance style.
Children 6–8 years old
Intermediate Dance Foundations
The core of all the dance programs at the studio. The disciplines of ballet, tap and contemporary are the focus of the dance styles taught in a unique balance of each other. The philosophy of the program is to instill the education and passion for dance. The IR One and Two Program continues to focus on ballet, tap and contemporary, which is a development on the JR Foundational Program.
The ballet classes follow the RAD syllabus and teaching methods. Ballet class involves barre and centre, developing a more in-depth vocabulary of foundational ballet movements and build-up of enchainments.
Tap classes use the Al Gilbert Syllabus. Tap class a progression of tap movements progressed from JR foundations.
Contemporary is an influence of the many styles and techniques of modern teachers and choreographers. Contemporary uses the foundation of ballet with the technique of modern pioneers such as Duncan, Graham, Humphrey, Limon and Webb. The class will allow students to maintain their foundational technique and explore their unique physical dance style.
IR One: Recommended for children 9–12 years old; IR Two: Recommended for youths 13–16 years old
Adult Introduction to Ballet
Explore your passion for ballet. The class will focus on the basics of ballet technique: barre, centre and simple enchainments will be the foundation for every class.
The class is opened to all who have no or little experience in ballet
Adult Basic Ballet Barre
Develops a stronger technical foundation required for ballet practice. Students will focus on the alignment, mechanics, strength, flexibility and musicality of movement. Breath within the movement will be developed to create ease and flow in your physical practice.
The class welcomes all levels of dance students
Adult Foundational Ballet
Continues development of barre and centre work as the foundation for ballet technique. Students will begin to learn complex movements and apply them to longer enchainments. The focus of the class is knowledge of movement mechanics, body alignment, balance of strength and flexibility, and moving through ease and flow.
For the dancer who has more than two years experience
Adult Restorative Ballet
For the student wanting to take a different approach to their ballet class. The intention of the class is to restore the physical body implementing the technique of ballet. There will be a strong focus on the barre and centre work. The class will also involve mindfulness and breathing techniques.
